About Addiction Medicine

Recovery begins with one honest conversation and the decision to accept support. Nadine Opong is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with addiction medicine experience, providing confidential telehealth care for adults seeking treatment for opioid or alcohol use concerns.

Addiction Medicine Q&A

Addiction is treatable. Recovery is possible.

Struggling with alcohol, opioids, cravings, relapse, or the stress of trying to manage recovery alone can feel isolating. Many people delay treatment because they feel ashamed, fear being judged, or believe they should be able to handle everything on their own.

At Swift Solutions Medical Center, you will be treated with respect, compassion, and privacy. Addiction is not a moral failure or a lack of willpower. It is a medical condition that can affect your physical health, mental health, relationships, work, finances, and sense of self.

Nadine provides individualized telehealth addiction medicine care for adults who are ready to explore treatment, continue recovery care, transition from a higher level of care, or receive ongoing medication management and support.

You do not have to have all the answers before you begin. You simply need a safe place to start.

What addiction concerns do you treat?

Addiction medicine services may be appropriate for adults who are experiencing concerns related to:

  • Opioid use disorder, including prescription pain medication or illicit opioid use
  • Alcohol use disorder
  • Cravings, urges, or concern about returning to use
  • Recovery after detoxification, residential treatment, or another higher level of care
  • Transitioning to outpatient medication management
  • Co-occurring anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, insomnia, or other mental health concerns
  • The need for a structured recovery plan and consistent follow-up

Every patient’s path is different. Care begins with understanding where you are now, what you have already tried, and what recovery needs to look like for your life.

What happens during an addiction medicine evaluation?

A new-patient addiction medicine evaluation is a comprehensive visit designed to understand your substance-use history, current concerns, medical and mental health history, medications, treatment history, recovery goals, and safety needs.

Nadine will talk with you about the impact alcohol or opioids may be having on your health and daily life. The visit may include diagnostic assessment, medication review, risk assessment, discussion of treatment options, and development of an individualized plan.

Your plan may include medication discussion or initiation when clinically appropriate, follow-up care, laboratory orders, coordination with other providers, referral recommendations, and recovery-support planning.

Do you provide medication treatment for opioid or alcohol use disorders?

Yes. Medication may be an important part of treatment for some patients with opioid or alcohol use disorders. Nadine may discuss or provide medication management when clinically appropriate after a complete evaluation.

For opioid use disorder, services may include buprenorphine/naloxone management when appropriate. Long-acting injectable buprenorphine options, including Sublocade and Brixadi, may also be discussed or offered when clinically appropriate, available, and covered by the patient’s treatment plan. For alcohol use disorder, treatment may include evaluation and medication options based on your health history, current medications, goals, and clinical needs.

Medication is not a replacement for recovery. It can be one important tool that helps reduce cravings, support stability, and create space for healing, rebuilding, and long-term change.

Important: Methadone is not prescribed through this practice.

What happens during addiction medicine follow-up visits?

Follow-up visits are for established patients who need ongoing recovery support and medication management. These appointments focus on your progress, cravings, medication response, side effects, relapse risk, recovery goals, and any barriers making it harder to stay on track.

Follow-up care may include:

  • Medication management when clinically appropriate
  • Monitoring cravings, triggers, and recovery progress
  • Review of treatment adherence and medication safety
  • Discussion of relapse-prevention strategies
  • Laboratory review or orders when indicated
  • Coordination with counseling, treatment programs, or other members of your care team
  • Adjustment of the treatment plan as your needs change

Recovery is not always a straight line. A setback is information—not a reason to give up. The goal is to understand what happened, strengthen the plan, and continue moving forward.

Can I start treatment after detox or residential treatment?

Yes. Swift Solutions Medical Center can provide follow-up addiction medicine care for adults transitioning from detoxification, residential treatment, or another higher level of care.

The transition home can be one of the most vulnerable points in recovery. Ongoing medication management, regular check-ins, mental health support, and a clear plan can help you stay connected to care during that transition.

When appropriate, Nadine can review discharge information, current medications, laboratory results, and recommendations from your prior treatment team to support continuity of care.

Do you provide medical detoxification through telehealth?

No. Medical detoxification is not provided through telehealth at Swift Solutions Medical Center.

Alcohol withdrawal and opioid withdrawal can sometimes require in-person monitoring, medical stabilization, or a higher level of care. If your symptoms, substance use, medical history, or safety needs require more intensive treatment, Nadine will guide you toward the appropriate next step.

If you are experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms, confusion, seizures, hallucinations, chest pain, severe vomiting, difficulty breathing, overdose concerns, or another emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Can you treat mental health concerns during recovery?

Yes. Substance use and mental health are often connected. Anxiety, depression, trauma, poor sleep, grief, stress, and major life changes can affect cravings, recovery, and emotional stability.

As a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Nadine considers the full picture. Your care can address both addiction-related needs and co-occurring mental health concerns when clinically appropriate.
